Emergency Treatments: PrEP, nPEP, and Doxy PEP

At The McGregor Clinic we provide urgent and effective treatments to help prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) after potential exposure. Our emergency treatments include PrEP, nPEP, and Doxy PEP, ensuring you receive the care you need promptly.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis):

What is PrEP? PrEP is a preventive treatment for individuals
at high risk of HIV. It involves taking a daily medication to
reduce the risk of acquiring HIV.
When to Use PrEP: PrEP is recommended for people who
do not have HIV but are at substantial risk of getting it, such
as those with an HIV-positive partner or those who engage
in high-risk behaviors.
How to Access PrEP: Contact us to schedule an appointment
for an initial consultation and testing. Our healthcare providers
will determine if PrEP is right for you and provide a prescription
if appropriate.

nPEP (Non-Occupational Post-Exposure Prophylaxis):

What is nPEP? nPEP is an emergency treatment to prevent
HIV after a potential exposure. It involves taking antiretroviral
medications for 28 days.
When to Use nPEP: nPEP should be started within 72 hours
after a potential exposure to HIV, such as unprotected sex,
needle sharing, or sexual assault.
How to Access nPEP: If you believe you have been exposed to
HIV, seek medical attention immediately. Contact us or visit your
nearest emergency room or urgent care clinic to start nPEP as
soon as possible.

Doxy PEP (Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis):

What is Doxy PEP? Doxy PEP is a preventive treatment using
the antibiotic doxycycline to reduce the risk of bacterial STIs,
such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.
When to Use Doxy PEP: Doxy PEP is recommended for individuals
at higher risk of bacterial STIs, such as men who have sex with men
and transgender women, especially those with a history of STIs.
How to Access Doxy PEP: Contact us to discuss your risk factors
and determine if Doxy PEP is suitable for you. Our healthcare
providers will provide a prescription and instructions for use.
